The redmi note 10 is already making it difficult to recommend other phones within its selling price. As we know the redmi line up by Xiaomi is their budget offering and this year they took it a step further by using an AMOLED display on the redmi note 10. The camera on this phone is great and I personally didn’t see Xiaomi using stereo speakers on a budget phone. but it is here and they are really loud. It is powered by the new snapdragon 678 that handles performance quite well. This is my Redmi note 10 review and I am going to share every detail you need to know about the phone.
This year we have the Redmi Note 10 and 10 Pro Max that I will post a review about in the coming days. The choice of a super AMOLED display has made this year’s Redmi series as competitive as ever. There is also a little bit of design change coming from the Redmi Note 9 of last year especially in terms of the rear design.
You can check out our review of the Redmi 9T and without wasting your time let’s get straight to the point and break down all the important information about this phone.
Redmi Note 10 Review
Design – Xiaomi Redmi Note 10
The phone has plastic at the back and glass at the front. The frame is made of plastic and we have gorilla glass 3 protecting the front glass. Like the Note 10 Pro, the redmi note 10 also comes with an IP53 rating that protects it against dust and water splashes. I have the onyx gray color and this color attracts fingerprints easily best if you use the case it came with for better grip and protection.
The camera cut out at the back is really cool and it sticks out a bit, but it doesn’t wobble even when placed on a flat surface. The edges at the back are curved and at 6.43 inch it is one of the grippiest phones I’ve tested. It is a little bit slimmer than the redmi note 10 Pro when placed side by side. On the front side, we have a minimal bezel but the one at the bottom is quite noticeable.
We have a punch-hole camera cut out right at the middle and it’s small. You won’t even notice it when you are consuming content or gaming. We have the power key and volume rocker on the right side the power key also doubles as the fingerprint scanner and it is quite responsive.
At the bottom, we have the USB type C charging port, a speaker, a headphone jack, and a microphone. At the top, we have the IR blaster and the second Speaker. We have the sim and SD card slot on the left and that’s about it. Note 10 is made of plastic and this makes it durable when compared to the 10 Pro that is made out of glass. Let me know in the comment what you prefer between glass and plastic.
Display – Redmi Note 10 Review
One of the major selling points of the Redmi Note 10 is the display. Xiaomi upgraded the IPS display on note 9 and gave us an AMOLED display here. We have a 6.43inch display that is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. It also has a decent 1080p resolution. While the 10 pro has a 120Hz refresh rate the note 10 settles for the 60Hz which is not bad within the price it’s selling for. some users might think Xiaomi should have at least upped the refresh rate to 90Hz just like we have on the Tecno spark 7p.
if you are interested in seeing the review of the spark 7p make sure you subscribe and turn on post notification so you don’t miss out on that video. It can get up to 700 nits at peak brightness, but you have to turn on the sunlight mode in the display setting. This makes it usable, and if you should set it to auto brightness it will even be better. It also has an always-on display which is great. If you like you can customize the color of the display to your taste because it’s AMOLED. It can be used to stream HDR content on YouTube and the colors you will get are vivid and clear.
Software and Performance
The device runs on Android 11 and MIUI 12 is the user interface the one I am using comes with 4 gigs ram and 128 gigs of storage. The MIUI has a lot of new features that you are going to like. In my first impressions video linked below, I was surprised that the device didn’t come with too many pre-installed apps. Even the ones I found on the phone could be removed. the notification panel kinda looks as if Xiaomi borrowed few things from IOS.
The dark mode is not really perfect because it tries to force most apps to go completely dark. It is a hit and miss with Facebook and Twitter. With subsequent updates, I would like Xiaomi to work on this. The phone is powered by the snapdragon 678 that does a good job in handling basic tasks like the everyday running of social media apps. Even if you scroll through for hours, the level of performance doesn’t drop that much.
It gets warm after excessive usage and while playing COD mobile there was a bit of lag when the game got intense. You can also play games at the maxed-out resolution. I want the MIUI to be optimized a little bit better because it feels heavy on the phone.
The Redmi Note 10 takes some exceptional photos and we have a quad-camera setup at the back that consists of a 48MP primary camera, 8 Megapixel ultrawide, 2 Megapixel macro, and 2-megapixel depth sensor. The macro camera on this phone is really useful if you take close-up shots. The portrait mode is okay and I used the ultrawide camera as well and it has some details. Here are more images.
The device comes with a 5000 milliampere battery and it can last you a whole day no matter how you use it. It takes just 30minutes to charge from zero to sixty percent and slightly over an hour for 100 %.
There are times when some apps running in the background would be consuming battery so you need to be aware of that. Though the Redmi Note 9 came with a 5020 milliampere battery that lasted well. The battery on the Note 10 also delivers well.
Conclusion – Redmi Note 10 Review
If you are using the Redmi note 9 the only reason why you might want to switch to note 10 is the upgraded AMOLED display that is bright. The loud stereo speakers and IP 53 certification must not be ignored. As far as competition goes in Nigeria, it’s difficult to recommend other phones from the competing brands.
unless you prefer the 90hz refresh rate on the Infinix Hot 10t and the Tecno spark 7p. even at that, you are getting a 720p display.
The note 10 is not a perfect all-around phone but for the price of 77,000 or $189 for the base model with 3gigs ram and 64 gigs storage. it is perfect and easy to recommend.
